I'm writing this today as I complete 10 years in the software industry. It has been a rollercoaster of struggles, growth, and learning that shaped who I am today.
My IT career began with struggles that seemed never-ending.
I had an arrear in college, and that single word became the biggest roadblock in my life. I cleared multiple technical rounds only to be rejected because of it. On top of that, my English communication was poor, which made things worse. I even approached consultancies for help, but I didn’t have the money to pay them.
Then, I got a breakthrough—or so I thought.
One of the best companies in Coimbatore hired me after recognizing my potential. On my first day at work, I felt like I was on top of the world. But by evening, my happiness was gone. I was relieved from my job because the management questioned hiring an arrear candidate. It was heartbreaking after all my hard work to land that opportunity.
A low point that became a turning point
I returned home, took care of my ailing father, and shortly after, I lost him in 2015. That loss hit me hard, but it also reignited my determination. I had to provide for my family.
Despite attending countless interviews, the outcome was always the same: rejection because of my arrear. But then, I met the person who changed my life*.* A startup founder, the same age as me, saw my passion and capabilities. He didn’t care about my arrear or my poor communication skills. That trust gave me the confidence to clear my arrear in the very next semester.
At that startup, my career truly began. I worked alongside young, passionate minds, learning things that no classroom or MNC could teach me. From technical skills to understanding finance, I grew in every direction.
From Struggle to Growth: The Startup Advantage
Over the years, I moved through different startups, each teaching me invaluable lessons:
Startup 1: I honed my skills, and understood how start-ups/businesses are working.
Startup 2: I mastered multi-tasking, handling clients, and working under pressure.
Startup 3: I became a founding member. Under the mentorship of my first boss, I learned business operations, finance, client management, and the power of communication. We ran this startup successfully for two years until the pandemic forced us to pause operations.
Startup 4: I worked with a seasoned business leader whose guidance sharpened my decision-making and leadership skills.
Startup 5: I’m the Engineering co-founder of a Health-tech startup. Leading engineering efforts, collaborating with a talented team, and contributing to the development of groundbreaking solutions that are making an impact in our industry
Where I stand today
Now, I work remotely for a US health tech company while building another startup alongside my first boss—someone who has been a constant pillar in my journey.
Over these 10 years:
I overcame my fear of public speaking and now communicate confidently with global clients.
I built 3 successful SaaS applications, delivered 20+ e-commerce platforms, and developed countless websites and web applications.
I learned that the best growth happens when you embrace challenges head-on.
